SQL Server Health Check
“No news” is not good news. It’s a bet you haven’t lost yet.
Trusted by 100+ Teams Since 2009
Your SQL Server looks fine.
That’s the problem.
Most SQL Server problems are invisible – right up until they aren’t.
Don’t wait for downtime, data loss, or a failed audit. Get a scored, expert-reviewed view of where your SQL Server is exposed.
Imagine knowing – with confidence – that your SQL Server is sound.
Not “probably fine.” Not “I think we set that up correctly.” Actual, expert-verified clarity on the state of your environment, with a clear picture of what’s healthy, what’s at risk, and exactly what to fix first.
How It Works
Four steps. No disruption. Real answers.
The assessment is designed to fit around your environment, not the other way around.
Short discovery call
We identify your SQL Server estate, business-critical systems, and access needs.
Expert-led assessment
We collect the right evidence and score across all five dimensions. An expert review, not a tool dump.
Scorecard & findings walkthrough
A SQL Server expert walks you through what we found, what it means, and what to do about it. Recorded so you can share internally.
Fix-first roadmap
You leave with a ranked plan: what to fix now, what can wait, what creates the biggest business exposure.
What We Check
Every assessment covers five dimensions of risk.
Each one is scored individually. Each one gets concrete findings and recommendations.

What We Examine
Security & Access
Login configurations, role memberships, orphaned users, linked server permissions, encryption at rest and in transit, and SQL Server surface area exposure.
Backup, Recovery & Corruption
Backup job history and coverage, restore test validation, CHECKDB schedules, page-level corruption detection, and RPO/RTO alignment to actual configuration.
Configuration & Best Practice
Instance-level settings, database options, compatibility levels, model database hygiene, tempdb configuration, trace flags, and deviation from current SQL Server best practices.
Performance & Stability
Wait statistics, index fragmentation, missing index patterns, blocking and deadlock history, query plan cache health, and latent risks that degrade under load.
HA/DR
Login configurations, role memberships, orphaned users, linked server permissions, encryption at rest and in transit, and SQL Server surface area exposure.

A wonderful experience
The Straight Path team has excellent communication skills and proactively reaches out when there are issues. They always inform us exactly what is going on and what to expect. It is a wonderful experience in 2025, where I don’t think enough companies are as transparent as Straight Path.

I don’t know what I’d do without them
Database management has never been this easy. The Straight Path team is full of SQL Server database gurus who can help you speed it up, sort it out or set it up right. Client satisfaction has increased because problems are solved and workflows are positively impacted. As a result, I am sleeping like a baby knowing our databases are being watched and managed diligently by our SQL Server consulting team.

Stepped up in emergency situations
StraightPath didn’t initially sell themselves to us as an immediate response team, and they didn’t pretend to be our “own” brain-power but an augmentation to our team. But they stepped up and became both during at least three different emergency situations over the last 12-18 months.
We reached out to Mike, and two things shocked me. First, within minutes, he was mobilizing the right team at his end to jump on a screen-sharing session to try and fix things. Then he brought in Tara (our dedicated Senior DBA from Straight Path today). Tara and Mike took control, analyzed and actually plotted a course of recovery that minimized our downtime (by a lot) and protected us from making stupid mistakes we were poised to make.
I can’t tell you how reassuring they were and we continue to use Straight Path more and more within our business and I highly recommend their remote DBA Services, without reservation.
Frequently Asked Questions
A SQL Server Health Check is an expert-led assessment of your SQL Server environment across five key risk dimensions: Security & Access, Backup/Recovery & Corruption, Configuration & Best Practices, Performance & Stability, and High Availability/Disaster Recovery. Each dimension is scored individually with concrete findings and recommendations.
The assessment is designed to cause minimal disruption and fit around your schedule. The Standard tier follows standard scheduling, while the Urgent tier is delivered within two business days. Your team’s time commitment is limited to a short discovery call at the start and a findings walkthrough call at the end.
No. The assessment is read-only and designed to cause zero disruption to your live environment. We collect configuration data and analyze your SQL Server estate without interfering with production workloads or requiring any maintenance windows.
You receive a scored health scorecard across all five risk dimensions, a ranked findings report, a fix-first remediation roadmap, a recorded expert walkthrough call you can share internally, and an executive-ready summary suitable for compliance and audit discussions.
The Standard Health Check ($997) delivers the full five-dimension assessment with standard scheduling. The Urgent tier ($3,497) includes everything in Standard, plus scheduling within two business days, four hours of hands-on expert remediation, and direct access to a senior SQL Server DBA from the moment we kick off.
Yes, read-level access is required to collect the right evidence. During the initial discovery call we’ll identify your SQL Server estate and agree on the minimum access needed. We scope access carefully and never request more than what the assessment requires.
Most SQL Server problems are invisible until they become a crisis. A clean incident history doesn’t mean your backups are valid, your failover will work, or your security posture is sound. A health check surfaces latent risks before they cause downtime, data loss, or a failed audit — not after.
Yes. The assessment produces documented evidence of your security posture, backup coverage, encryption configuration, and access controls — exactly the kind of evidence auditors ask for. The executive-ready summary is designed to be shared directly with compliance teams, auditors, or leadership.
We work with on-premises SQL Server, Azure SQL, and hybrid environments. The discovery call is where we confirm exactly what’s in scope for your estate. If you’re running a mix of on-prem and cloud, we’ll tailor the assessment accordingly.
No ongoing commitment is required. You leave with a prioritized remediation roadmap your own team can act on. If you’d like additional help — whether that’s hands-on remediation, a retainer, or a one-time engagement — that’s entirely your call. Many clients do go on to work with us further, but there’s no obligation built into the health check.
