There are a number of troubling default setting in SQL Server, as well as some commonly seen practices that can unintentionally result in attack vectors. I want to help folks have a better understanding of what those are, why they are problematic, and what actions you should take now.

Recent studies show ransomware is a growing threat. Nearly 50% of organizations have been hit by it in recent years. Is your company next? Are you ready? As a SQL Server DBA, is there anything you can do to protect from a threat that is a matter of when, not if?
In this session, we will examine attack scenarios and identify several common vulnerabilities in your SQL Server instances. We will focus on problematic settings and permissions, use simple scripts to identify these vulnerabilities, and discuss actions to resolve any issues.
You will leave with a checklist of practical steps and tools you can use immediately to reduce the impact of ransomware attacks in your SQL Server databases.
